Lexmark named Military-Friendly Employer for third straight year

For the third year in a row, Lexmark has been named a Military-Friendly Employer — with a Gold-level distinction for the first time.

The 2018 award comes from a leading survey by Victory Media that recognizes companies with the strongest job opportunities and best-in-class hiring and retention programs for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. The Military-Friendly Employer survey results were independently tested by Ernst and Young.

There are five levels of awards — the highest is Top 10, followed by Gold, which is defined as scoring “within 20 percent of the 10th-ranked organization.”

Our successful bid can be attributed to our efforts to recruit veterans; the existence of VALORR, our diversity network group for veterans; our military benefits and leave policies; and our global sourcing efforts with veteran-owned businesses and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

Just last month, Lexmark launched its free training program for U.S. veterans and soon-to-be-separated active duty personnel who are interested in a career as a field service technician.

“We are proud to again be recognized for our company’s efforts to support our nation’s veterans, and it’s especially rewarding to receive the Gold-level distinction this year,” said Carl Sullivan, VALORR chairman.

Kristina Scheffelmaer, Lexmark’s EEO analyst, led the company’s survey effort with help from Sullivan.

“Lexmark is proudly committed to hiring veterans because we highly value their work ethic and varied work experience,” Scheffelmaer said. “Our outreach activities include attending veteran-themed career fairs, speaking on panel discussions to advocate employing and advancing veterans in the workforce, and posting our job and new printer service training opportunities on a variety of veteran career sites.”
